Straight answers from your local locksmiths

FAQs

Over 12 years of working on local Sydney homes, building sites, strata blocks and businesses has taught us which questions really matter. Here are the honest answers, the same ones our local team gives on the phone at 2am.

The three answers everyone wants first

How fast?

Typically around 30 minutes across Sydney, because a local technician is usually already nearby. You get a real ETA on the phone.

How much?

A price range on the phone, then a fixed price on site before any work starts. No callout tricks, no surprise extras.

Can I trust you?

A registered local business with a Master Security Licence. Every technician shows licence and photo ID at your door.

Emergencies and lockouts

For emergencies across Greater Sydney our local technicians typically arrive within 20 to 40 minutes, depending on where you are, the time of day and traffic. You get an honest ETA on the phone based on where our nearest van actually is, not a number made up to win the job. If anything changes on the way, we call you. Nobody is left waiting on a doorstep wondering.
Yes. Lockouts do not keep business hours and neither do we. Nights, weekends, Christmas Day and long weekends, the phone is answered by a local locksmith who can help, not an overnight message service.
Almost never. We use non destructive entry first on every lockout, which means picking or bypassing the lock so it keeps working afterwards. Drilling is the last resort. If it is genuinely needed we tell you before it happens, and we fit a quality replacement on the spot so your home is never left unsecured overnight.
Yes. Car lockouts are opened with purpose made automotive tools that work through the door seal, so there is no forcing, no scratched paint and no broken glass. Most cars are open within minutes of us arriving, and we check licence and registration before opening any vehicle.
Stay somewhere safe and well lit, keep your phone charged, and check every door and window once more, because a surprising number of lockouts end with an unlocked back door. If a child, an elderly person or a pet is inside, or something is on the stove, tell us when you call so we can prioritise the job. If anyone is in danger, call 000 first.

Local service

Yes. 613 Locksmith is a local Sydney business, not a national booking line that sells your job to whoever is nearest. When you call, our own team answers, a local technician comes out, and the same local business stands behind the work afterwards. Our registered business name, ABN and security licence are on every page so you can check.
Three reasons. Speed, because a local technician is already in your part of Sydney instead of driving across the city. Price, because there is no middleman taking a cut of your job. And accountability, because a local business lives on its reputation in the community. If something is not right, you know exactly who to call and we come back.
All of Greater Sydney, including the Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, CBD, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Hills District, Parramatta, Western Sydney, Sutherland Shire, St George, Canterbury Bankstown, Ryde, Hornsby, Liverpool, Penrith and Macarthur. If you are on the edge of the city, call anyway and we will give you an honest ETA.
Be wary of listings with no business name, no ABN, no licence number, a generic call centre greeting or a price that sounds too cheap to be real. Ask who will turn up and whether they carry a NSW security licence. A real local locksmith will answer those questions straight away.

Pricing, payment and guarantees

You get a price range on the phone based on what you describe, then a fixed price on site once we have seen the job, before any work starts. The price we agree is the price you pay. No after hours surcharges added at the end, no "it turned out to be harder" extras. After more than a decade serving local customers we know that clear pricing is what earns their trust and their referrals.
The quote you agree to includes getting to you. We would rather give you the real number up front than advertise a tiny callout fee and make it back with surprises on the invoice, a tactic this industry badly overuses.
Card, tap and pay, or cash on completion, with a proper tax invoice showing our ABN and exactly what was done. Builders, strata managers and businesses can arrange account invoicing.
Yes. Our workmanship is guaranteed, and the hardware we supply carries the manufacturer's warranty. If something we fitted is not working as it should, call us and we come back and make it right.

Licensing, trust and safety

Yes. Locksmithing in NSW is licensed security work. 613 Locksmith operates under Master Security Licence 000111586, every technician carries their own security licence and photo ID, and we hold public liability insurance. We show our licence at the door without being asked. If any locksmith ever refuses to show theirs, send them away.
Because a locksmith who opens doors without checking would open yours for a stranger too. Before opening anything we sight photo ID and reasonable proof you live or work there, like a licence with the address, a utility bill or rates notice on your phone, or a lease. For cars we check licence and registration.
Look for a registered business name, an ABN, a security licence number and one consistent phone number. Ours are on every page of this site: Top Brands Pty Ltd T/A 613 Locksmith, ABN 99 129 390 852, Master Security Licence 000111586. Unmarked vans, vague pricing and refusing to give a business name are all warning signs.
No. We do not keep copies of residential keys. For commercial master key systems we keep a secure key register on your behalf, so you control who can order keys, and copies are only cut with your written authorisation.

Home security advice

Rekey, in most cases. Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing locks so every old key stops working, at a fraction of the cost of new hardware. We only recommend replacement when the existing locks are worn, low quality or do not meet your insurance requirements, and we will show you the difference on the spot.
Every policy is different, so check your schedule, but many insurers ask for deadlocks on external doors and key operated locks on accessible windows. Our local technicians fit to that standard and give you an itemised invoice listing what was installed, which is handy if you ever need to make a claim.
Not always. In our experience a lot of stiff locks are really door problems. Local Sydney homes move with the seasons, timber swells in humid weather, and the latch stops lining up with the strike plate. Adjusting the strike or the hinges often fixes it for far less than a new lock. If the cylinder is worn, a service or a new cylinder is usually enough.
A quality deadlock on every external door, fitted into a strong frame with a heavy duty strike plate and long screws. Most forced entries break the timber around the lock rather than the lock itself, so reinforcing the frame often matters more than buying the most expensive lock.
For the right home, absolutely. They are brilliant for families, short stay rentals and anyone tired of hiding a spare key. Choose a proven brand with a mechanical key override, have it fitted properly, and change the batteries when it warns you. If you live in an apartment, check whether your front door is fire rated and what your strata by laws allow before buying.

Builders, renovations, strata and property

Yes, and it is work we know well. With a background in building, construction and home services, we work alongside local builders and renovators, fit locks and door hardware on new builds and renovations, supply construction keying so trades can access the site, and switch everything to the owner's keys at handover so no builder's key works after the keys change hands.
A temporary keying setup used during a build. Trades get keys that work while the job is underway, and at handover the system is changed so those keys stop working and only the owner's keys open the doors. It saves rekeying a whole building after completion and gives owners certainty that nobody from the build still has access.
Yes. We are the local locksmith many property managers call between tenancies. We rekey, cut and label key sets, attend vacant properties with your access instructions and invoice against each property, so the next tenant moves into a secure home and your records stay clean.
Often yes, but check first. In many strata buildings apartment entry doors are fire rated and form part of the building's fire safety system, so hardware changes can need owners corporation approval and must use compliant locks. Tell us your building and we will advise what is allowed before any work starts.

Business and commercial

With a standard key, the only safe answer is rekeying the affected locks. With a master key system and a key register, we can rekey just the doors that person could open and issue new keys to everyone else. Restricted keys also stop staff copying keys without your knowledge in the first place.
Yes. Required exit doors generally need to open from the inside without a key. We fit hardware that keeps the door secure from outside while still letting people out quickly in an emergency, so you do not trade fire safety for security.
Yes. Call your local team any time and we will make the premises secure, repair or replace damaged locks and doors where possible, and give you documentation for your insurer. Our aim is to have you trading as close to normal hours as possible.

Car keys and remotes

For most makes and models, yes, at your location anywhere across local Sydney. We cut and program new keys and remotes from the van, including transponder keys. Have your licence and registration papers ready, because we verify ownership before cutting any car key.
In most cases yes, and almost always faster, because a local mobile locksmith comes to you, there is no tow and no waiting for a key to be ordered in. A small number of late model vehicles need dealer coding, and we will tell you on the phone if yours is one of them.
Usually, yes. When programming a new key we can remove lost keys from the car's memory so they will no longer start the engine. Ask us to do this if your keys were stolen or lost somewhere public.
